Biografía
Sara Maya, FNP-BC, MPH, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner providing comprehensive primary care for the whole family since 2008. She has special interests in women’s health, substance use disorders and mental health, including psychiatric medication management.
Sara is passionate about empowering her patients to take control and make positive changes for a healthier life. “We’re holistic beings and our physical, mental and spiritual health are all intertwined,” she explains. “If I can help someone in one or two of those areas, I’d like to think I’m contributing to a better overall quality of life for them and their family.”
Sara works with each patient, helping them find ways to prioritize their health – getting diabetes under control, reducing anxiety, getting or staying sober, or simply getting current on any health maintenance they may have been putting off. “I meet each patient where they are at and see how I can help them achieve their goals.”
Many patients may remember her by her maiden name, Sara Walsh, as she cared for our community for nearly 10 years at Adventist Health Sonora Rural Health, Mountain Medical Family Practice and Pavilion Primary Care. In 2019, Sara relocated to Sacramento with her husband to pursue educational goals. After completing a fellowship in primary care psychiatry with UC Davis and UC Irvine and practicing at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Sacramento for the last three years, she has returned with her husband and two geriatric cats. Originally from Santa Cruz, Calif., Sara enjoys hiking and kayaking on her days off.

My visits to Sara in the past have always been very good, I have always felt well listened to and attended. This time was a little different, she did not seem to be as attentive to my needs. Maybe it's because my physical problems were not resolved on the spot. Physical therapy will be starting soon (I hope) so maybe my opinion will change
