Acerca de Ginger Lynn deGravelle

Biografía

Board-certified gastroenterologist Ginger deGravelle, MD, enjoys connecting with people and helping them heal. “Medicine gives me an opportunity to help people and really make a difference in their lives,” she says.

Inspired by multiple siblings, parents and grandparents who pursued medical careers, Dr. deGravelle earned her medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport School of Medicine. She then completed her residency in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond.

“I love the detail and puzzle-solving nature of internal medicine,” she says. “[Gastroenterology] is also a fascinating field. It is very gratifying to help people with GI issues, as they can have such a big impact on quality of life. That, and the liver is easily the coolest organ. It does so much!”

Always looking for ways to learn professionally and personally, Dr. deGravelle values diversity in cultures and origins. “It’s important to always be open to new perspectives,” she says. “Being surrounded by people from many different backgrounds truly helps one to grow.”

When not at work, Dr. deGravelle turns her curiosity to hiking, adventuring and exploring new places. She learns a new hobby every year — most recently, sewing. Having always wanted to work with her hands, she says another lifelong hobby, video gaming, improves her work. “Interestingly, that has really helped with my dexterity as an endoscopist,” she says.

I would never recommend Dr De Graville. She was very cold and didn't really listen to me. I told her my history of having to drink castor oil as a kid till I was 17 due to my kidney health and I let her know I wouldn't be able to drink go lite and all she said was "well no one likes to drink it, but we have to" I asked for the super prep or pills because I know my body and it would be a waste of go lite, but she didn't want to hear it. She left the room and I thought to myself NOPE this is not the doctor for me.
